More than 800 people from different age groups, including healthcare professionals, fitness enthusiasts and residents, participated in a walkathon organised at Company Bagh here on Sunday to mark World Hypertension Day.
The event was organised by Livasa Hospital to raise awareness about hypertension and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Mayor Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia attended the programme as the chief guest.
Apart from the walkathon, several activities including yoga sessions, Zumba performances and fun games were organised for participants. The hospital also conducted free blood pressure check-up camps during the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Anurag Yadav, CEO of Livasa Hospitals, said the aim of the walkathon was to highlight the importance of regular exercise, timely health check-ups and lifestyle changes in preventing hypertension and other lifestyle-related diseases.
Dr Rajiv Kundra, Facility Director of the hospital, said hypertension was one of the leading lifestyle-related health concerns today and awareness was the first step towards prevention.
“Through this walkathon, we wanted to create a platform that motivates people to adopt healthier habits and understand the importance of heart health. The overwhelming participation and positive response from the community made this initiative truly impactful,” he added.
