SHAH ALAM – The Tun Ahmad Sarji Pro-Am Charity Golf tournament organised by the Professional Golfers Association of Malaysia (PGM) at the Saujana Golf and Country Club here today attracted 96 players, including 24 professional golfers.
PGM general manager Nik Mustapha Nik Mohammed said the competition which used the team format, featured one professional player in every team while three others in the flight comprised amateurs.
Among professional players who joined the charity golf tournament were Hanoi SEA Games gold medallists Ervin Chang, Paul San Weng Yau, Aretha Pan Herng and Galven Kendall Green who also doubled up as the guiding force for the amateur players in their respective flights.
“Tournaments which feature professionals and amateurs playing together, serves as a good platform for the amateurs to learn and share valuable tips from the professionals. Such tournaments are much sought after by golf enthusiasts in the country,” he said.
Nik Mustapha added that the Tun Ahmad Sarji Cup was being held yearly to pay tribute to the late Tun Ahmad Sarji’s contributions to the sport of golf when serving as the PGM president until his death on August 28, 2021.
The Pro-Am tournament was won by the team comprising professional player Paul San and three amateur players from Sime Darby Property: Datuk Mohd Sohimin Mohd Alayedin, Steven Tan and Tang Ai Leen.
Meanwhile, the 2023 Tun Ahmad Sarji Cup, which will feature 92 professional players, will tee off tomorrow at the same venue and end on Saturday. – Bernama, March 7, 2023
