James Chester has made a permanent switch to Stoke City after his contract expired with Aston Villa.
The Wales centre-back moved to the bet365 Stadium on loan in January.
Chester has signed an initial one-year deal with the Potters.
Stoke boss Michael O'Neill said: "It's no coincidence that in the 13 games he started after joining us on loan from Villa we claimed 24 points.
"James brings vast experience to our squad and he has already shown himself to be a massive influence, both in and around the training ground and in matches."
