All environmental requirements will be complied before extraction works commence in a silica mining project on Pulau Balambangan off Kudat, said Yayasan Sabah, in response to a portal report that the project had started without environmental considerations.The foundation was responding to a MalaysiaKini report titled “Groups Alarmed Mining Project on Sabah ‘Heritage’ Island Starts Without EIA.” Yayasan Sabah Director Datuk Jamalul Kiram Mohd Zakaria in a statement said an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consultant was appointed in February 2020 but the study was delayed due to the Movement Control Order (MCO).
