And The Telegraph claims a Champions League club has now contacted the Frenchman about a move this window.
That would leave Arsenal on the back foot, as they can only offer Europa League football this season.
Manager Mikel Arteta will hope to convince Aouar about the long term project at the club.
Then it is the small matter of presenting a satisfactory fee to Lyon for the 22-year-old, who want £54 million.
