Kota Kinabalu: It is puzzling that former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal could have given the nod to a RM300 million loan by SDB to troubled AirAsia at a time of the Covid-19 pandemic which caused so much damage to the local economy, besides crippling the global aviation industry.

Bersatu Kota Kinabalu Divisional Chief Datuk Faisyal Y.H. Diego (pic) said as SDB is a State-owned bank, a loan of such sizable amount would require the consent of the State Government. In this case, he said, that consent must come from the Chief Minister.

“Their creditors were hot on their heels. It had been reported that the airline is bogged down with RM65 billion debt,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.
