Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (pic) announced the setting up of a Sabah Economic Council to chart the way forward in the State’s economic recovery.

He said the council members, to be announced in the near future, would comprise captains of various industries, businessmen, non-governmental organisations and academicians.

He also said the State Government has approved a RM160 million budget allocation under the Bantuan Prihatin Covid-19 to assist those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This is in addition to the RM50 million approved by the State Government early October.

“The funds, to be disbursed through various ministries in the form of monetary aid, will benefit those in the agriculture, tourism and transportation sectors as well as hawkers, orphans and single mothers, among others,” he said, after chairing the weekly Cabinet meeting, Wednesday.

He added that of the amount, RM1 million would be channelled to universities to assist tertiary students affected by the pandemic.
