Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta convinced the board to shell out for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey on deadline day, it has been revealed.
And now Stan Kroenke's role in getting the deal done has been revealed.
The Independent says Arsenal owners KSE sanctioned the signing of the Ghanaian midfielder at the request of Mikel Arteta, who saw Thomas as the perfect addition to his squad this summer.
It's claimed Kroenke has underwritten the transfer business Arsenal conducted over the summer transfer window and losses incurred due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
While clubs across the Premier League have spoken about tightening their belts due to the pandemic, a total of £1.27 billion was spent in the summer transfer window.
