PUTRAJAYA: The allocation for takmir (religious) teachers’ allowance nationwide is sufficient until December, said Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) Deputy Director-General (Operations) Datuk Abdul Aziz Jusoh.

Commenting on a letter claiming that takmir teachers in Kelantan will only get paid of up to November, he said that Jakim was of the view that the directive was based on the state’s financial procedures.

He said that Jakim, again on Oct 26, had issued a circular to the states regarding the notification of the payment of allowance for takmir teachers.

“Jakim has no problem for the states to manage the payment (of the allowance) subject to their current financial procedures,” he said in a statement, here Wednesday.

The letter, issued by the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Maik) dated Oct 8, stated that allowance for takmir teachers in the state is for only eleven months (from January to November), went viral on social media.

Jakim also reiterated that the welfare of the murabbi (educators) has been given top priority by the government as takmir, Quran and Fardu Ain (Kafa) class teachers have contributed a lot in terms of human development in this country, he said.

This is clearly demonstrated by the directive issued by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri in March which stated that the allowance for takmir and Kafa teachers to be paid in full during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period regardless if any of the classes can be implemented or otherwise.
