Russian Federation chief Igor Lebedev is lukewarm on the prospect of selecting Wolves defender Max Kilman.

The youngster has announced he'd like to play for Russia if given the chance. He qualifies through his father.

Lebedev told Sport-Express: "First of all, this question should be addressed to (coach Stanislav) Cherchesov, because even if one of the players in the English Premier League can play for the Russian national team, we need to understand if we need him, his professionalism and how much better he is than all the Russian defenders that we have. I don't know if there is any plus or minus in this for us.

"First of all, we must look not at what championship he is from or who he is by nationality, but his ability. If Messi announced tomorrow that he is ready to play for the Russian national team, then another matter. This would, of course, be amazing news and one could say that Russia is already in the final of the next European Championship.

"But this player is from a team that few people even in Russia know. Therefore, I do not see anything super interesting in this. I'm not even sure that it will happen someday. Good for him, of course, that he can or is ready to play for us, but get citizenship and come to Russia, play in our clubs, then maybe Cherchesov will invite you."
