Kota Kinabalu: The imminent payment of sales tax on petroleum products worth more than RM1 billion due to the State Government by Petronas is due to former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal’s effort since 2018.

Merotai Assemblyman Sarifuddin Hata (pic) said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Government should thank Shafie because of his hard work in the fight for restoration of State rights as stipulated in the 1963 Malaysia Agreement (MA63).

He was referring to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan’s statement on Sunday that Sabah would collect a tax of RM1.25 billion from Petronas starting next year.
