P’pang Council has potential to be upgraded

PENAMPANG: The Penampang District Council (PDC) has the potential to be upgraded into a municipal council, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

He said this is due to PDC’s annual revenue of over RM30 million. 

“One fundamental criteria (to be eligible for upgrade) is whether they are able to generate enough revenue to administer a municipal council.

“Normally, without the Covid-19 pandemic, the council is able to generate around RM32 million (in revenue). I believe this figure is sufficient to qualify the PDC to be upgraded into a municipal council.”
