Boat seized off Tawau waters: MMEA

TAWAU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s (MMEA) seized a passenger boat and detained its skipper and a crewmember for violating the license at waters off waters at 12.30pm on Sunday.

Tawau Maritime Zone Director Capt Siva Kumar Vengadasalam said the boat, which was carrying a load of controlled goods, is believed to be heading to Sebatik Island.

“My team who was on ‘Op Sejahtera/Op Cegah Pati Selatan Covid-19’ patrol near the old CIQ Jetty detected their presence intercepted them.

“The boat was found to be carrying a number of controlled items including 10 barrels of LPG gas and 720kg of granulated sugar and failed to provide the permit for the goods.
