RM38m saved in Kunak fires

KUNAK: Some RM38.39 million worth of personal items had been salvaged by the Kunak Fire and Rescue Department, from January-December, last year.

Kunak Fire Station chief Madzlan Sarman said at the same time, it involved losses worth RM1.03 million.

“The awareness on fire safety among the people in Kunak is high,” he said, Wednesday.

The increased awareness, he said, was contributed by several factors, including preventive measures as well as awareness campaigns.

“The Department received some 41 fire cases last year, involving various types of fire.

“There were only eight fire cases that involved premises, while 84 rescue cases were recorded during the same period.”

A total of 96 special tasks were carried out to help curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic last year, involving public disinfection operations.

He also reminded the public to put much emphasis on personal safety at any time, in any place.
