Drug escapees recaptured

TAWAU: TAWAU: Two detainees who escaped from the Tawau Prisons on Saturday were recaptured within 24 hours not far from the prison grounds.

Tawau Police Chief, ACP Peter Umbuas said the duo were caught at about 7.45pm and 9.45pm, respectively. 

Police mounted Ops Tutup and Ops Kesan after being alerted of the 4.30pm incident, adding that investigations are still ongoing to identify how they escaped.

He said the two were initially detained under Section 15 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for substance abuse.
