Kota Kinabalu: A 41-year-old man was charged with causing hurt to a woman while robbing her.Harold Gan Vui Kuant pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Ummu Khaltom Abd Samad to the charge against him, Friday, but the court rejected Gan’s plea after he claimed that he has no intention to commit the crime as he was under the influence of alcohol at that time. He informed the court about this during mitigation.
The court set April 26 for case management and ordered Gan to be remanded further. Gan is accused of assaulting Wong Hui Wen while robbing her of a handphone at 8.50pm on March 17 this year at the garbage collection point near the Speedmart 99 in Ranau. The offence under Section 394 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, upon conviction.
In another case, a 23-year-old man was sentenced to five years’ jail and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for taking syabu for the third time. Ameer Anif Lebah admitted to taking the drug at 3.20pm on July 7, 2020 after his urine was tested positive at the Putatan police station. After completing his jail sentence, Ameer was ordered placed under supervision of the National Anti-Drugs Agency for two years.
