Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has revealed the squad planning he and Xavi had put together.

Al Sadd coach Xavi was part of Font's ticket ahead Joan Laporta eventually winning the January election.

Font recalled on Gerard Romero's Twitch stream: "We had the squad configured and neither (Memphis) Depay nor (Gini) Wijnaldum were involved in that planning.

"El Kun (Sergio Aguero) was part of the plan.

"We had established contact, there was a relationship, and he also knew of the need to lower the wages."

Eric Garcia was also on their shopping list.

"Eric was also part of the project There was a lot of people from home, we wanted to redouble the bet with people like Riqui Puig and there were a couple more signings we wanted to do. One was a left back, but as we already explained, signings like (Erling) Haaland and (Kylian) Mbappé were not possible."

Font added: "Xavi's bet was a matter of leadership and of convincing the players. He wanted to have players with good physical tone, those players who couldn't press were not going to play no matter how big a name they had.

"We couldn't make big signings, like that that planning went through combining experienced people with younger people. Physical tone and meritocracy with an idea of Cruyffista football."
