Newcastle United have made an enquiry to sign Ethan Ampadu on loan.
The Wales defender is available after spending last season at Sheffield United.
Ampadu is not expected to feature for Thomas Tuchel's team this season.
The Northern Echo says Toon manager Steve Bruce is pressing forward with plans to sign the 20-year-old.
Signed from Exeter City in the summer of 2017, Ampadu has failed to cement himself in the Chelsea first-team.
