Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants Gabriel and Ben White to "establish a relationship" at centre-back.
The pair have not yet played together for Arsenal following White's big money move to the Emirates this summer.
Both are available for Saturday's clash with Norwich City, and Arteta acknowledges the pair need time to develop an understanding.
"They are one of the options," Arteta said in his pre-match press conference. "They've both been signed since I was here, because they have the profile and the qualities that we are looking for.
"Now they need to establish a relationship. That cohesion in the backline is really important. They've never played together, but they will do."
