Everton had a deadline day bid for Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek turned down.
The 24-year-old midfielder has been assured he will get more chances at Old Trafford this season but there is still a degree of pessimism after United strengthened their squad once again during the window.
The Daily Mail says a move to Everton would have provided an escape for him but the informal enquiry was knocked back.
Van de Beek has been desperate to play regular football after struggling to make an impression since his £35million move from Ajax last year.
