Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard insists there was no abuse from fans during yesterday's thrashing by Liverpool.

Lingard was an unused substitute for Manchester United but found himself being shouted at by supporters in the Old Trafford home end.

At some point in the first-half, fans appeared to make their feelings known to Lingard, who was warming up near the corner flag.

It can't be heard what was shouted at Lingard but the midfielder appears to respond by saying: "I'm not on the pitch."

He later clarified on social media: "It wasn't abuse! he said 'work harder' like I'm not already doing that day in day out!

"And I said "I'm not even on the pitch" end of!!"
