Before kick-off the two managers bumped elbows, before going into their respective technical areas at a raucous Anfield.
But after the hosts' victory and once referee Danny Makkelie blew for full time, Klopp was straight onto the pitch to celebrate with his players.
In contrast to his actions in the Spanish capital, Simeone appeared to hang around waiting for Klopp, but there was no meeting, on the pitch at least.
