Newcastle United are close to appointing Michael Emenalo as their new Director of Football.

The Magpies appointed Eddie Howe as their new manager on Monday.

The club's new Saudi-backed ownership wants to restructure the footballing side of the business and want to create a Director of Football position.

According to the Telegraph, Emenalo is being considered for the role.

The former Nigerian footballer built a stellar reputation as technical director at Chelsea.

He spent six years in the role at Stamford Bridge, during which the Blues won two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Emenalo also spent two years as technical director at Monaco.
