Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe made a point to thank fans after their 4-0 home defeat to Manchester City.

The Geordie faifthul turned up the volume as the Magpies found themselves 3-0 down and effectively out of the game and at 4-0 going into stoppage time, the Gallowgate End were still outsinging the Man City supporters.

It left Howe taken aback, he said in his Press conference: "I just want them to know it's not taken for granted.

"It's not an easy emotion for me because I want to give them success, points, victories and performances they can be proud of.

"I really do value their support. The players needed that today."
