Brighton boss Graham Potter isn't surprised hearing football chief Dan Ashworth being wanted by Newcastle.

Reports earlier this week suggested the Magpies have been 'given permission' to talk to Ashworth in their search for a director of football and he 'ranks highly' among the candidates being considered for the position.

However, Potter claimed he had 'nothing to add' on the matter when he was asked if if he could shed any light on the speculation during his pre-Brentford press conference on Wednesday.

He said: "I have nothing to add to that.

"As I have experienced myself sometimes, things appear in papers which aren't the truth, it's just speculation.

"It doesn't surprise me with Dan [Ashworth] because he is a fantastic person. And from my experiences with him, he is a top operator, so we are lucky to have him here.

"And long may that continue."
