Spezia coach Thiago Motta praised the home support after their 1-1 draw with Empoli.

Spezia took the point after a week which saw fans protest Motta and his players after their Coppa Italia elimination.

"I want to thank the fans, as they were with us from start to finish. We need everyone to stick together," the coach told DAZN.

“It's a pity, because we had taken the lead in a difficult game against an on-form side with so much movement upfront, but we conceded that goal and only picked up a point.

“We were coming off difficult matches, but they were against Inter, Atalanta, Sassuolo, Roma, so the only one we really got wrong was against Lecce in the Coppa Italia. We are slowly trying to improve so that we can challenge those teams who are at a high level.

“It is not always possible, but we are trying to play our football and there are areas we need to improve. I never feel comfortable, as I am always thinking of what we need to do, so we never stay still."
