
Kota Kinabalu: A man and a woman were jailed for taking syabu repeatedly.
Chung Ket Luen was jailed five years and four months by Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, after he admitted to the charge against him. The court also handed a stroke of the cane to Chung. Chung was found taking the drug after his urine was tested positive for drugs in the police station here on Aug 18, 2021 and he has several convictions for taking drugs.
The offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and read together under Section 39C (1) of the same Act which provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.
The court ordered Chung to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and placed under police supervision for three years after serving jail sentence.
Meanwhile, Kasdatul Karim was sentenced to five years by Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim.
Kasdatul was found taking drugs after her urine was tested positive for drug on Sept 11, 2021 at the police station here. She has several convictions for taking drugs.
Kasdatul was spared from whipping pursuant to Section 289 of the Criminal Procedure Code, as she is a woman.
After completing the jail sentence, the court ordered Kasdatul to be placed under police supervision for two years.
In another case, an illegal immigrant was sent to prison for four months for entering the State without any document.
Sabri Abdul Gapur admitted to entering the State illegally and he was arrested on Nov 7, 2021 in Manggatal.
The court ordered Sabri to be referred to the Immigration Department after completing his jail sentence for deportation.
