Man jailed and fined for having six stolen knives

Kota Kinabalu: A 58-year-old unemployed man was jailed six months and fined RM1,000 or another month for keeping six stolen kitchen knives.

Miasan Adau pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to having the knives worth RM84.80 belonging to 100% Megastore, at 1pm on Jan 20 in front of a clinic in Sinsuran.

Unrepresented, Miasan requested leniency due to his age and has no job and promised not to repeat the offence.

He told the court that he wanted to bring the knives home.

Miasan was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine, on conviction.

In another case, a 26-year-old woman was fined RM1,000 or a month’s jail for having illegal gambling paraphernalia.

Nancye Yesri admitted to having three pieces of Wahui riddles without licence at 4.20pm on Nov 1, last year at an open area behind a restaurant in Donggongon town, Penampang.

Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting, told the court that police inspected the area and found gambling paraphernalia, including RM8 from Nancye.

Nancye, who was not represented, applied for a lower fine.

She was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act carries a jail term of up to six months, or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
