KENINGAU: A 30-year-old woman was burnt to death in a fire that destroyed her non-permanent house in Kampung Tikolod, Tambunan, on Tuesday.

Keningau Fire and Rescue Department Chief Yuszaimi Hairrul Azwan Juatan said the Tambunan Fire and Rescue Station received a call at 12.25am and 12 members led by Operations Officer Desmond AK Micky @ Dominic rushed to the location, some 22km from the station, with machinery.

He said the fire extinguishing operation was carried out with a 200-foot stream, two fountains and one stream aid channel, as well as water from the machinery tank and the nearest fire hydrant.

He added that the operation ended at 1.45am and the cause of the fire and loss were still under investigation.

Meanwhile, Yuszaimi said 11 fire incidents had been reported in Keningau Zone 4 since January.

He said most of the fires were caused by cooking equipment and electrical items, and advised the community to be always careful on the use of cooking equipment and electrical goods.
