KENINGAU: A family of five in Kampung Dalit here had to be evacuated due to flash floods early Sunday.

Keningau Fire and Rescue Department Zone Chief, Yuszaimi Hairrul Azwan Juatan said the district Fire and Rescue Station received a call at 6.30am and seven members led by Operations Officer Leong Hoi Min rushed to location some 24km with machinery and boat.

“As soon as they arrived at the location, the fire personnel carried out an operation to move five people from a family to the nearest relative’s house.

“Dalit river in the village was flooded due to rain in upstream and there were no casualties in the incident,” he said.

Yuszaimi said the water level in the flood -affected areas is receding and the operation ended at 8.25am.

Meanwhile, in Tambunan, four people, including two women, suffered minor injuries when the Perodua Myvi vehicle they were travelling skidded on the shoulder of the road at Kampung Naudu, Saturday night.

Yuszaimi said the Tambunan Fire and Rescue Station received a call at 11.53pm and six members led by the Operations Officer, Severinus Sixtus with machinery rushed to a location some seven kilometers away.

He said upon arriving at the location, the four victims who suffered minor injuries were removed from the vehicle and sent to hospital by the public before the firefighters arrived.

“Fire personnel carried out an inspection to ensure there were no other dangers and the operation ended at 12.48am,” he said.
