Kota Kinabalu: Police arrested a woman after an hour-long tense high-speed chase that saw her ramming several vehicles, including a postman’s motorcycle, around the Tanjung Lipat area, here, Monday morning.

The 35-year-old suspect, believed to be a drug addict, was finally apprehended along Jalan Sepanggar shortly before noon after police reportedly fired shots at the tyre of the vehicle (pic), believed stolen around 10am from the city’s central market area.

City Deputy Police Chief Supt George Abdul Rakman said the Kota Kinabalu IPD operations room received a call from the public at 9.59am informing that his stolen car was seen near the central market, driven by a lady.

He said the vehicle was spotted leaving the town centre and sped past several roadblocks as police gave chase.

They eventually cornered her along the road to Sepanggar where she was caught in traffic. She was then taken to Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters for questioning.

George said the woman was being detained for questioning under Section 307 for attempted murder, as she had injured a police sergeant while reversing her car to escape arrest.

In a viral video, the woman’s car is seen hitting several other vehicles, including the postman’s motorcycle, along the Likas Bay Coastal Road as policemen initially approached her vehicle on foot.

She is then seen nearly ramming a man, believed to be a policeman, in a bid to escape. The man is shown running to safety as the woman flees the scene.

“We suspect she is a drug addict,” said Goerge, adding the policeman suffered slight injuries from a fall into a drain as the woman attempted to reverse the car in an attempt to escape.

No further details were available on the background of the woman, who is reportedly from Kg Sembulan, here.

Based on witness reports and viral videos, the woman is believed to have rammed at least three cars as well as a postman on a motorcycle during her escape bid across the city.

Supt George said police were also checking on the number of other vehicles that were hit by the woman during her getaway bid.
