If you are a prawn lover, here is an excellent recipe for you to try. Most sambals are spicy, sour, hot, and sweet. Sambals are easy to prepare as not many ingredients are needed. Peeling and cleaning prawns may be a chore to some people.

Here is a simple and yet tasty prawn sambal recipe.

Amazing Prawn Sambal Recipe

Ingredients

  • 25 medium-sized prawns (peeled and deveined)
  • 3 red fresh chilli
  • 3 pips of garlic
  • 2 medium-size onions
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1 medium onion (cut horizontally)
  • ½ inch shrimp square shrimp paste (belacan)
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon lemon/lime juice
  • 4 tablespoon oil

Method

  1. In a blender and put in washed fresh chilli, garlic, onions, and shrimp paste.
  2. Now add water into the blender. Grind all the ingredients until it is well blended.
  3. Heat a cooking pot or a pan at a medium flame and start by pouring the oil.
  4. Add 1 medium onion cut horizontally and saute for 1 minute. Now add the blended ingredients and cook the mixture for 3 to 5 minutes until it thickens.
  5. Add chilli powder and salt and tomato to it. Cook for 2 minutes until the tomato softens.
  6. Now add prawns to the sambal and stir it. Cover the prawns with a lid so that they will begin to release water.
  7. After 2 minutes, open the lid and cook for another 2 minutes until the sambal thickens. You will be able to see some oil appearing on the sambal.
  8. Lastly, add lemon juice. Mix well. Your prawn sambal is ready! Do enjoy the prawn sambal when it is still hot.
