Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s cases fell below the 2,000 mark on Sunday with 1,778 which indicate signs of stabilisation with some 17 districts in Sabah recording a decrease in cases, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
Only three districts recorded three-digit cases, namely Kota Kinabalu (511), Penampang (206) and Tuaran (168), while 21 districts recorded two-digit cases.
Despite the decrease, Masidi said symptomatic infections still remain high at 65.47 per cent with 23 out of 27 districts recording a high sporadic rate, which is the main factor behind widespread transmission within the community.
“Stabilisation and a downward trend is highly attributed to the community’s attitude in complying with the standard operating procedures (SOP) and the Malaysian Health Ministry’s advice.
“It is the community that will determine our success in the war against Covid-19,” said Masidi, adding that one death was recorded in Kota Kinabalu while no new clusters were identified.
Additionally, Masidi said Kota Kinabalu still remained the main contributor to the daily caseload, however the number of backlogs have reduced with only 71 out of 511 cases in the district being overdue for more than five days.
The majority of cases are mild, with 1,745 out of 1,778 cases being category one and two infections which is 98.14 per cent.
“Eleven patients are in category three, 13 in category four and nine in category five,” said Masidi.
Some 4,108 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 1,381 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.
On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 16,321 individuals were vaccinated on Mar 5, of which 12,718 were adults while 142 were teenagers and 3,461 were children. As of March 5, he said a total of 2,414,148 individuals have completed both doses, of which 77.31 per cent were adults, while 2,520,337 have gotten their first dose, of which 78.03 per cent were adults.
Masidi added a total of 339,266 teenagers have received their first dose, while 313,828 have completed both doses, which is 73.63 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 61,620 children have received their first dose.
