Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Tennis Association’s (STA) junior tournaments have made a return after a two-year lapse starting with the Sandakan leg at the Sandakan District Tennis Association (SDTA) on Friday.
A total of 24 players with 10 from Sandakan, nine from Kota Kinabalu, three from Lahad Datu and two from Keningau took part in the round robin competition.
STA President Johnson Koh said only the Under-12 will have both the boys and girls categories while the Under-18, 14 and 10 categories are for boys only with two girls competing with the Under-18 boys.
“We decided to go ahead with the tournament after we were given the green light from the Youth and Sports Ministry.
“We can see that the juniors are raring to compete again. Most of the players are accompanied by their parents and we ensured that all SOP (standard operating procedures) are followed strictly,” he said on Friday.
Meanwhile, SDTA President Fernando Rulloda welcomed the participants and a lunch was held at the clubhouse with the players, parents and some invited guests.
