KALABAKAN: Two elderly men were arrested Wednesday for attempting to bribe the General Operations Force (GOF) at the Land Inspection Centre (RCP) in Kalabakan, here, with RM100 and canned drinks.

The duo aged 64 and 61 were travelling from Tawau to Keningau in a four-wheel-drive, according to Sabah GOF Brigade Commander SAC Abdul Rani Alias.

He said his team pulled up a car driven by a local for a documentation check and discovered the passenger was a foreigner with an expired passport.

He said the local man tried to prevent his passenger from being detained by offering the team on duty six cans of various beverages and RM100 cash.

“Despite the GOF team warning him more than three times, he continued to offer the money to the team on duty,” he said in a statement.

The two individuals were arrested for further action, according to Abdul Rani, and their possessions, including cash and vehicle, were seized.

He said the two men were transferred to the Kalabakan police station for further action, along with the confiscated things, which he estimated to be worth RM150,100, including the vehicle.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
