Kota Kinabalu: After a downward trend in the last few days, Sabah’s caseload shot past the 700 mark with 708 cases Wednesday from 591 the day earlier, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“A total of 15 districts recorded an increase, with five registering significant rises, namely Beaufort (+30), Kota Kinabalu (+28), Penampang (+28), Tuaran (+24) and Tawau (+23).

“As stated previously, the rise and fall of cases in districts such as Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Tuaran greatly influence Sabah’s overall caseload.

“Although 11 districts recorded a decrease in cases, it was unable to negate the rise in 15 districts, especially the five districts with significant rises,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.

Masidi said sporadic infections also remained high at 64 per cent of the caseload, while close contacts accounted for 20.38 per cent.

He said Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 202 cases, followed by Penampang (70), Tuaran (70), Beaufort (47), Tawau (41), Papar (32) and Sipitang (32).

Five deaths were recorded, with two in Kota Belud and one each in Penampang, Tenom and Tuaran, while no new clusters were identified.

“Another education cluster was officially closed today, which is the Jalan Sokid Cluster in Ranau. There are 21 active clusters in Sabah to date,” Masidi added.

Masidi said the majority of cases were mild, with 693 out of 708 cases being category one and two infections, which is 97.88 per cent.

“Three cases are in category three, seven in category four and five in category five,” he added.

Some 1,222 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 753 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 9,648 individuals were vaccinated on March 15, of which 7,745 were adults while 103 were teenagers and 1,800 were children.

As of March 15, he said a total of 2,404,312 individuals have completed both doses, of which 76.87 per cent were adults, while 2,545,402 have gotten their first dose, of which 78.43 per cent were adults.

Masidi added that a total of 332,051 teenagers have received their first dose, while 316,065 have completed both doses, which is 77.91 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 82,847 children have received their first dose.
