Sean Dyche says Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet will benefit from a full preseason with the club.

The Ivory Coast international has struggled with a number of niggling injuries since thriving in the early stages of the season following his move from Lyon.

"He is getting there," Dyche toldLancs Liveabout Cornet. "The final piece in any jigsaw is playing but you have to ready to play not playing to get ready.

"The problem we have got is mixing the fitness with the game schedule and trying to find the right window and then window to rest and be ready when called upon.

"I think Maxwel will benefit from a good pre-season here, I think that will be a massive benefit.

"In the meantime it is about getting him back to that real sharpness. He is feeling well today and looks sharp so I think it is coming back together.

"It is not a perfect scenario, he is not unfit, he is a fit guy but that real Premier League fitness is what we are talking about.

"If I can resist the temptation than you have to sometimes because the longer view is more important than one game. You don't put someone in for one game and then see them out for another five.

"It is always the risk and reward and we are always careful and delicate with it and my rule of thumb usually is to give them more time not less.

"He did some work after the game on Saturday, training today, training tomorrow morning so they will help get you ready for the challenge."
