
SEMPORNA: Marine police arrested a 31-year-old local for suspected involvement in the slaughter and sale of turtle organs at Kampung Bangau-Bangau, here, on Tuesday.
They also seized 38 turtle parts.
District Marine Police Operations Commander Deputy Supt Mohammad Ismail said acting on a tip, two personnel found the turtle organs inside a boat which was tied to a house.
He said the offence is listed under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.
“The seizures and the man were taken to the Semporna Marine Police Force Base for further action by the Wildlife Department,” he said in a statement.
The marine police also confiscated 25 marginal turtle scales worth RM3,500 and 13 turtle plastron valued at RM3,000.
Mohammad also said they had seized a boat worth RM2,000, two pump engines worth RM3,000, a knife, an axe, a hammer and a goggle mask. He urged anyone with information on similar illegal maritime activities to contact them via WhatsApp number 013-9391197.
