Kota Kinabalu: A new high-risk cluster was identified at a welfare care centre in Tuaran, Sunday, named as the Jalan Tambalang Cluster which saw 60 cumulative infections so far.

Sabah’s Covid-19 Spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the index case is a 20-year-old female local student doing her practical session at Hope Village and lives at the centre’s workers quarters.

“She was tested positive on March 5. Screenings on close contacts found another 59 positive.

“This cluster involves residents, staff and family members of staff at Hope Village. Investigations and monitoring are still ongoing at the centre. All cases have been isolated and given treatment,” he said in a statement, Sunday.

He added that the Jalan Getah Cluster (education cluster) in Kunak was officially closed on Sunday.

Sabah’s cases remained below the 1,000 mark with 845 cases on Sunday, a marginal rise from 796 the day earlier. One death was recorded in Kota Belud.

Masidi said although cases are showing signs of stabilisation, sporadic infections still remain high at 61 per cent.

“Risks and threats of the virus spreading rapidly are still existent. All levels of society are required to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) at all times,’ he said.

He said Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 227 cases, followed by Penampang (105), Papar (82), Tuaran (81) and Tawau (39).

“Telupid are among districts in Sabah that did not record any new cases. Seven districts recorded below 10 cases, while others recorded two-digit cases except for Kota Kinabalu and Penampang,” Masidi added.

The majority of cases are mild, with 831 out of 845 cases being category one and two infections, which is 98.35 per cent.

“Five cases are in category three, eight in category four and one in category five,” he added.

Some 2,053 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 962 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 8,217 individuals were vaccinated on Mar 12, of which 5,849 were adults while 153 were teenagers and 2,215 were children.

As of Mar 12, he said a total of 2,403,645 individuals have completed both doses, of which 76.85 per cent were adults, while 2,539,835 have gotten their first dose, of which 78.40 per cent were adults.

Masidi added that a total of 331,911 teenagers have received their first dose, while 315,905 have completed both doses, which is 74.12 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 78,036 children have received their first dose.
