Kota Kinabalu: The struggle to realise the issuance of Sabah Identity Card (Sabah IC) has reached the attention of both the state and federal governments.
Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) Sabah Deputy President Datuk Robert Tawik @ Nordin (pic) said this was an encouraging development since first voiced 10 years ago.
“In the beginning, the struggle to issue Sabah IC was only voiced through the Borneo Tea Party (BTP) organised by the United Borneo Front (UBF),” said Robert. After being part of the government at state and federal level, efforts to issue Sabah IC began to be discussed in official meetings.
Robert, who is also Assistant Minister of Works, and Bingkor Assemblyman, said Sabah IC aims to differentiate Sabahans from MyKad holders using fake documents, including through the IC Project.
Star President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey G Kitingan debated the Sabah IC issue in Parliament while Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee debated it in the Sabah State Assembly.
“The debate on Sabah IC in Parliament, as well as the State Assembly, shows a far-reaching development as a continuation of the tireless movement over the years,” said Robert.
