KOTA Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) needs to pay attention to the aspects of cleanliness, harmony and safety, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said a clean, beautiful and vibrant city would attract tourists, thus strengthening economic growth through tourism.
“It is very important for DBKK to create a city that is liked by many - cleaner, harmonious and in line with the tag ‘My Favourite City KK’,” he said when launching the Love KK and KK Clean-Up Day programmes at the Likas Bay Public Park, Kota Kinabalu, on April 2. His speech was read by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Yakub Khan.
Hajiji is optimistic that with the support and involvement of all city dwellers, the Government will be able to improve and enhance economic growth, human capital, people’s wellbeing, infrastructure network and green sustainability in Kota Kinabalu City.
“Of course, this will also contribute to the achievement of DBKK’s Roadmap, which is towards ‘Kota Kinabalu Sejahtera’,” he said.
He said the Love KK and KK Clean-Up Day programmes are an initiative of DBKK to encourage the participation of city residents of various races, religions and ages in community activities, devotion and contribution to Kota Kinabalu City.
“This is in line with efforts to form and develop inclusive communities in a quality and liveable urban environment.
“It is also to foster the spirit of unity and community participation through effective collaboration to benefit targeted communities and social groups to help achieve the Sabah Maju Jaya Roadmap development plan,” he said.
According to him, green sustainability is also the essence of the KK Hijau (Green KK) component which emphasizes the aspects of connectivity and sustainability in the development of Kota Kinabalu City’s infrastructure.
Hajiji said the main thrust of Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ), especially related to tourism, is also translated through the implementation of various components in the Love KK and KK Clean-Up Day programmes, namely KK Bersih (Clean KK), KK Ceria (Vibrant KK) and KK Indah (Beautiful KK).
He said the programme also did not neglect human capital and welfare of the people outlined in SMJ through the implementation of the components such as KK Berdaya Huni (Liveable KK), KK Sihat (Healthy KK) and KK Warisan (Heritage KK) which focus on improving the people’s quality of life and security.
Touching on some of the city-related guidelines that he launched, Hajiji was confident that it would improve the quality of life of city dwellers.
“The State Government will also continue to provide support to every programme implemented by DBKK to develop this city in all aspects,” he said. Also present were Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir and Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip.
