Newcastle United are increasingly confident of completing a deal for Galway United defender Alex Murphy.
The 17-year-old has impressed scouts, and is being targeted by the Magpies this summer.
Murphy is represented by Polaris Sports, a firm that is run by super agent Jorge Mendes.
According to The Chronicle, the teenage left-back is linked to Celtic and a few other Premier League clubs.
But Newcastle are the ones with the strongest interest in his signature, and hope to tie up a deal as soon as possible.
The player's agents have reportedly been at the Newcastle academy to conduct talks over his contract.
