
PETALING JAYA – The national bowling squad is targeting at least one gold medal as the team will be represented by the second squad at the SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam from May 12 to 23.
Malaysia’s chef de mission (CDM) to the Hanoi SEA Games Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad said the target is realistic considering this is the first time the country is sending the second team to the biennial Games.
“At least one gold medal is clear for bowling, additional medals would be a bonus.
“With the spirit of our young keglers. we hope they would perform well to return with more medals and I do not want to put them under unnecessary pressure,” he said.
He told reporters after checking up the training session of the national bowling squad at Sunway Megalane, Sunway Pyramid, here today.
Nur Azmi said the decision to send the second squad to the championship was timely for them to acquire the experience and skills so soon as possible.
“Actually some second-liners are good, the exposure for them could expedite their move to the elite team and other bigger Games such as the Asian Games.
The Hanoi SEA Games national bowling squad comprises Shahrukh Amin Zulkifli, Muhammad Hafiz Zainuddin, Muhammad Syazirol Shamsudin and Nevern Netaneel Marcellinus Petrus for the men’s team while the women’s squad would be represented by Gillian Lim Siew Giok, Nora Lyana Nastasia Norkamal, T Nerosha Keligit and Nur Syazwani Sahar
Malaysia took home seven medals, two gold, three silver and two bronze in the Manila SEA Games in 2019. – Bernama, April 22, 2022
