TAWAU: The Marine Police Force (PPM) seized 1.3 tonnes of frozen meat worth RM36,900 that was believed to have been smuggled in through the Pom-Pom sea area at 9.30pm on Monday,
PPM Semporna Operations Headquarters Commanding Officer DSP Mohamad Ismail said a team detected a suspicious boat heading towards the national border.
He said the boat was intercepted for inspection which found two men, aged 29 and 46, on board along with several boxes of chicken and cow meat weighing 1,300kg.
“The two suspects were unable to produce any documents allowing them to bring frozen meat into the country,” he said, adding the frozen meat was being smuggled out of the country.
According to Mohamad Ismail, the case has been referred to the Semporna Veterinary Department for further investigation.
He urged the maritime community to report any illegal activities in their area to the Sabah PPM Communication Centre at 013-9391197.
