Everton boss Frank Lampard has admitted regret over his clash with Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp two years ago.

Lampard admits he can hardly ask his players to stay “on the right side of the line" as they fight for their Premier League lives, and then step over it himself.

The Blues manager has made clear that while he wants his team to show passion, fight and desire in the desperate search for points against Liverpool, he has told them that doing it with 10 men is “virtually impossible."

And after having a well-publicised fall-out with Klopp when manager of Chelsea - saying to the Reds chief could “You can f*** off as well" - Lampard admitted he was misguided in being so direct.

"It was well meaning at the time, a bit misguided from my point of view," he said of an exchange where Klopp publicly chastised him afterwards for continuing the argument after the final whistle.

“But I can't preach to my players (about) staying on the right side of the line and then say it is fine for me to get it wrong. I have seen Jurgen since then and everything is fine. We all get things wrong but move on because we understand the passion of the game."
