Kota Kinabalu: The High Court here, Thursday, set May 27 this year for its decision on the case of a 53-year-old man charged with killing his nine-month-old daughter.
Judge Leonard David Shim fixed the date for Maidin Ibnuhashim during the clarification of submissions from both parties on Thursday.
During the proceedings, both parties informed the court that they have no further submissions.
Maidin is accused of murdering the baby between Aug 10 and 13, 2018 at a rented room in Kg Gersik Lama, Labuan.
The offence, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty on conviction.
The prosecution had called 15 witnesses during the hearing.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Rustam Sanip conducted the prosecution while assigned counsel David Tan represented Maidin.
Maidin was further remanded pending the date.
In another case, a 31-year-old man, charged with murdering his girlfriend last year, will go trial on Oct 17, 18, 26 and 27 this year.
Judicial Commissioner Amelati Parnell set the date for Hartono Janang when his case was brought up for case management as well as to know the outcome from the Hospital Mesra in Bukit Padang about Hartono’s mental condition.
DPP Azreen Yas Mohammad Ramli informed the court that the psychiatric report was ready and Hartono was diagnosed fit to plea and stand trial.
Hartono, who has no document, is accused of murdering one Kamalia Yusopp, 35, between 12.30am and 6.55pm on Jan 19, 2021 on a hill behind a hotel at Bandaran Berjaya here.
Assigned counsel Ram Singh, Kimberly Yeh and Chan Wen Jye defended Hartono.
Pending the trial date, Hartono was ordered remanded further as the charge against him has no provision for bail.
