Liverpool have kept the Premier League title race alive with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Tuesday.

The Reds had to win in the Midlands to keep pace with Manchester City, who can restore a three-point advantage with a win over Wolves on Wednesday.

The game started off in the most frantic fashion with two goals inside the opening six minutes.

Alisson made a great save to deny Ollie Watkins, but Liverpool couldn't clear the danger and the ball eventually fell to Lucas Digne.

The Frenchman's cross was met by Douglas Luiz, whose header was originally saved by Alisson only for the rebound to fall at his feet for a simple finish.

Liverpool were stunned but it was simply a glancing blow as they responded just three minutes later through Joel Matip.

Villa had trouble dealing with Trent Alexander-Arnold's free-kick, and although Emiliano Martinez denied Virgil van Dijk's shot, the Argentine could not prevent Matip from scoring the rebound.

Jurgen Klopp's side were dealt a blow in the first-half as Fabinho limped off with a hamstring injury.

But the Merseyside outfit pushed on the second-half, searching for the goal that would decide their Premier League fate.

The goal started from none other than Luis Diaz, the January signing bouncing down the left-wing before unleashing a rasping cross for Sadio Mane to steer a superb header past Martinez.

Every Liverpool supporter in the world will have their fingers and toes crossed tomorrow night as City travel to Molineux.
