SHAH ALAM - PKR Election Committee has been urged to take a proactive approach to restore the party's credibility while waiting for the party's forensic audit report.
Central Leadership Council member Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid said the PKR election committee played an important role in taking full responsibility for the controversies and complaints circulating around the election results.
He said they need to be more assertive and careful in examining each complaint as opposed to simply issuing a statement to avoid being deemed as ‘escaping’ the matter.
He also welcomed the PKR Election Committee Chairman's statement to conduct a forensic audit for every complaint with hope it can be implemented immediately by a credible independent body and directly report the results to the Central Leadership Council.
This, he said, so that all leaders were aware of the latest party election situation.
“However, apart from just waiting for the results of the independent body's forensic audit, I also demand that the election committee itself to be more proactive in carrying out internal investigations into the complaints that have been submitted.
“The hearing session should immediately call for Rafizi, Farhash or any other relevant individual who is able to restore the confidence of PKR members towards the election committee.
“PKR and its members have gone through a long period of struggle facing various obstacles and challenges in order to uphold the party and reform in the country, so any attempt that has the potential to erode the values of Keadilan will certainly be opposed,” he said in a statement today.
Abdullah Sani said the party elections this year has been smothered by controversies, complaints and protest - the most troubled in one in PKR history.
He said the most shocking news for the party was reported when 11 PKR members of the Kalabakan Branch who won uncontested resigned.
“This is a worrying development and needs to be taken seriously, especially involving complaints related to party elections.
“We also received complaints and doubts in the election which does not only come from one party, but also from Rafizi Ramli himself who issued a statement on May 10 that there were about 54,000 dubious PKR voters.
“It was evident when he discovered that there are 1,500 names registered with just one phone number alone,” he said. However, he added that the claims were later dimmed down and there was no follow up from Rafizi after he was unofficially elected as PKR deputy president.
“It is impossible for a deputy president candidate to just play on perception, he should submit all the evidence he has found to PKR election committee for further investigation.
“This election is very important, especially in PKR’s efforts to have a proper plan for the 15th General Election as the masses are focusing on to what extent will PKR be able to practice transparency, good governance, rule of law and the justice itself, “ he said.
On Thursday (June 2), PKR’s election committee chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa was quoted saying that the committee was ready to discuss with any members in the party’s branches and they were open to constructive criticism.
She had remind all members that all forms of complaints must be made formally and through the right channels, and that they would take strict action if any actions were made outside of the official channels, such as demonstrations or the likes.
