Former Real Madrid GM Jorge Valdano is happy they failed to land PSG star Neymar.

Valdano has questioned the influence the Brazil captain would've had on Real's young duo Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes.

He said, "I would not have liked that Neymar signed for Madrid. He lives the profession in a somewhat confused way; I do not know if he would be a good influence for young people of Real Madrid who surely idolise him."

Valdano was also asked about former teammate Diego Maradona taking charge of Gimnasia La Plata.

He told El Transistor: "Maradona seems to me an example of energy and courage. His arrival modified the entire league in Argentina. He has become a legend from which miracles were expected."
