Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce believes he has a squad capable of staying in the Premier League.

For a third successive season, the Magpies are set to be among those battling for safety until the final weeks of the campaign.

They are struggling under Bruce, who took over from Rafa Benitez this summer.

But the veteran boss believes in his players, in spite of the way they capitulated in the 5-0 thrashing at Leicester City.

Speaking about the squad with reporters, he said: "I'm not going to single out individuals.

"The whole team performance - the whole lot of them - were nowhere near what's required or to go and make a fist of it."
